Oiseau Blanc (Hôtel Peninsula)
Above the crystalline lobby of the Hôtel Peninsula, above the rooftops, and above your budget most likely, there’s the terrace of the Oiseau blanc…. It begins with a view of the entire city, in a palatial booth (leather, rivets and aluminum), accompanied by high-flying cocktails (€26-30 a glass)…. The thunderous Brasilian Julep (cachaça with curry, angostura bitters, passion fruit and lime juices, mint); the deceptively mild Pretty In Pink (tequila, maraschino, grapefruit juices, basil, lime juice, ginger ale); and the orgiastic Paradis Blanc (litchi purée, lemon, ginger, ginger beer, €20). Some advice to patrons, the Oiseau Blanc also has a selection of stratospherically priced gourmet dishes: €57 for the lunch menu of line-caught bass with fennel and a chocolate cookie for dessert. // A.B.
