Five exquisite terracettes to catch some sun in Paris

The long-awaited sun is finally back! And since all the parks have already been stormed, why not bask in the sun at a restaurant?

For this particular Crème de la Crème (solaire), Le Fooding is shining a light on the best Parisian spots where you can lounge about at any hour of the day.

From 8a.m. onwards, wake up slowly at Cravan
In the dada-cool joint from Franck Audoux, voted Le Guide Fooding’s Best Bar d’auteur of 2019, they’re shaking up more than just cocktails. To get your engine revving and cure your hangover in the early hours of the morning, grab one of the twenty seats on the terrace with a bowl of granola, yogurt and fresh fruit (€10) plus a café crème from Hexagone (€5), Marzacotted with love by Youssef Li (ex-Fragments).

From noon to 3p.m., an explosively flavorful lunch at Badaboum
If planting your butt cheeks on one of the ten chairs at Badaboum’s little terrace proves a challenge, the house also provides a good indoor/outdoor solution, by opening its big bay windows when the weather is nice. So go ahead and light the fuse on the dynamite dishes made by Shohei Fujishiro: asparagus, cream of Comté and egg yolk; yellow pollack and grilled white cabbage; a dangerously destructed chocolate tart. Set menus €16-22 (weekday lunch), plates €9-26 (lunch and dinner).

From 3p.m. to 6p.m., healthy snacks at Café Pimpin
At the pimped out Pimpin, everyone appears to be the picture of health thanks to ginger shots (€3) and cold-pressed juices (€4.50) – or perhaps simply because they’ve gotten a good dose of vitamin D, provided en masse on the terrace (24 seats). No matter: in the early afternoon, enjoy the (good) vibes and a little heavenly salvation thanks to the sun shining down on the Montmartre hill, with a slice of homemade carrot cake (€5) or banana bread (€4) to make it even sweeter.

From 6p.m. to 7:30p.m., apérhip-apérihop at Yard Cave (photo)
At the golden hour, there are only eight miniature seats on this little street, where you can appreciate the battle that plays out at one of the coolest bars is Paris. Svante Forstorp sends out heavy hitting dishes in small portions (deviled egg with truffles, cecina yakitori, pasta fresca, arancini…), which you can nibble on while listening to American rap, while Clovis Ochin selects the very best natural wines to uncork. Small plates €2-15, glasses of wine €6 and bottles starting at €32.

From 7:30p.m. to 9p.m., tapas for dinner at Bonne Aventure
Vintage nights are even sweeter on the terrace of Bonne Aventure (20 seats), the restaurant that’s shaking up the Saint-Ouen flea market. While the hotshots of vintage goods are wrapping up their treasures at the Paul-Bert and Serpette markets, foodies are scooping up excellent deals with Alcidia Vulbeau’s tapas (kakuni pork in broth, octopus and potatoes, West Indian boudin croquettes…), while toasting with wines that have been thoughtfully selected by Mathias Tenret. Tapas €6-12 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday night), glasses of wine €4.50 and bottles starting at €22.
