Not content playing the eternal night owl for Paris’ in-crowd, Margot Lecarpentier has now adopted the role of belle de jour at this fearless, irreproachable café. Not far from her cocktail bar Combat (Le Fooding’s Best Bar d’auteur of 2018), you can now fuel up at Capitale, a pretty coffee shop with stripped-bare walls, cleverly mismatched furniture and real silverware. The day we went: crispy croissant sandwiches filled with ham, cheese, thinly sliced avocado, lettuce and tomato, all held together by a mustard-mayonnaise combo; languorous labneh pimped out with grapefruit, hazelnuts and dates; a Hellenic watermelon / melon / feta / olive salad; very fresh haricots verts nestled amongst ricotta topped with grated preserved lemon; a fried egg with crispy edges, ricotta and chive oil; before polishing your glass off with some fromage blanc paired with lemon curd and an explosively flavorful rhubarb condiment, all topped with an oat tuile that stuck to our teeth ever so slightly. // Laura Dargent

FEELING THIRSTY? In the morning, there are hot or cold nectars (€3-5), including a lovely coffee with chamomile and maple syrup, and at cocktail o’clock, the boss’s famous creations: a virginal Green Opium combining coffee-infused vermouth, fig leaf, orange blossom and verjus (€7); a Doodh made with 7up, milk, sake and a toasted pistachio powder (€5)… Unless you’d rather opt for a glass of Vier – a macerated beer and wine beverage.
