The people of Montreuil have been squeezing into Lili’s place for 35 years now, not because of its ideal location behind the Croix de Chavaux mall, nor for its tiny terrace with plastic barstools. Instead, they come for the homemade noodles and delicious fresh pasta made every morning! The retired Cambodian restaurant owner has handed over the keys to her son, Jean-Pierre, who makes the rice flour noodles fresh every morning! They are used in the bun bo xaos, prepared with the sauce and ingredients of your choice: delicious beef satay; average spring rolls and dumplings; fish and shrimp in an outstanding curry sauce; skewers; various vegetables…. Made with wheat flour, they get sautéed or used in enormous beef, shrimp or dumpling soups. Amongst the desserts, there’s a delicately flavored pistachio flan that gets gobbled up by the regulars, or a comforting tapioca-banana coconut milk. Menu €7 to €8.50, desserts €2, jasmine tea €1.50, Tsingtao beer €2, soda €1.30. // M.A.-L.
