Don’t pay any attention to the space’s dress code (blonde wooden furniture, a wood and zinc bar, a terrace with wicker chairs) or to the name! Orchestrated by Marie Cuissard, Bart Luzmann and Grégory Reibenberg (La Belle Equipe), there’s nothing basic about Basique! The proof can be found on the clever small plates made by Claudia Murcia (ex-Aux Deux Amis), which we dug into the other day at lunch with the impeccable €17 set menu: delicious hummus with thinly sliced shallots and fresh cilantro; outstanding falafel with a yogurt sauce and tangy cornichons; lustful homemade gnocchi enrobed in a blue cheese sauce; and some very naughty shredded pork with pickled onions. Also tested the day we went: a lovely avocado and poached egg toast, a good hake fillet with olives, and some cute figs with Greek yogurt and honey. // G.LeP.
FEELING THIRSTY? There’s Deck & Donohue IPA brewed in Montreuil (€5 for 330 ml) and a few natural wines: a Coteaux-d’Aix rosé from the Château Barberelle (€5 a glass), a Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages red from the Château Les Quatre Filles (€26 a bottle) and a Touraine white from the Domaine La Piffaudière (€32)…
PRICE: Set menus €13-17 (weekday lunch), tapas €5-9.
