There’s something new at the Bier Akademie! The pub with 40 brews to its name is now run by Bastien Vizier, who used to work for Bras. The large building’s small adjoining rooms have become noisy classrooms (school chairs, wooden tables, paper easels instead of blackboards for the menus). Surrounded by executives and workers from the nearby AéroConstellation site, the day we went for lunch we dug into: a simple barely roasted peach and tomato salad with mozzarella mousse; perfectly cooked haddock fillet under a chorizo crust, with puréed carrots, sautéed zucchini and raw radish; before a more ordinary rice pudding. At night, to go with your local beer, dip your fries and breaded hake into a homemade tartar sauce, unless you’d rather place your bets on a cheese platter from Chez Jeannot. // A.S.
FEELING THIRSTY? There’s beer, including a Goose IPA (€4 for a half-pint) or Commerzienrat Riegele (€3.50 for 250 ml). And there’s wine, like the Le Cant des Vignes, a Jurançon sec from the Domaine Cauhapé (€28 a bottle), a Gaillac red from the Domaine de Labarthe (€18)…
PRICE: Menu €18 (lunch), à la carte €31-47.
