Restaurant Biondi in ParisBiondi (Paris)

Just a stone’s throw from Le Cirque d’Hiver, the Biondi bistro (named after the famous Argentine comic actor) satisfies carnivorous cravings in a rough-around-the-edges and dimly-lit ambiance (exposed bricks, black velvet curtains, post-industrial light fixtures, blond wood tables). Its secret weapon? A charcoal-fueled grill orchestrated by chef Fernando de Tomaso (ex-Pulperia). The night we went, he had some muy caliente cuts of meat for us: an excellent bife angosto (a fine sirloin) and an impressive prime rib to share, also served with silky mashed potatoes, roasted shallots, crunchy cassava chips and chimichurri sauce – just like in Buenos Aires. Don’t forget about the swaggering starters, like bone marrow spread on toast, or melt-in-your-mouth foie gras with nectarine, cherries and hazelnut crumble. If you still have room, end the meal with a copious dulce de leche, prepared as an ice cream, mousse and crumble with salted cocoa. // T.V.X.

FEELING THIRSTY? Natural wines from Argentina: a Chardonnay from Doña Paula (€8 a glass), a Syrah from Bodega Colomé (€50 a bottle), a Pinot noir from Bodega Charca (€75)…

PRICE: Menu €17 (lunch), à la carte €46-71, prime rib €95 (to share).
