Butcher’s hooks galore, dry-aged meats in the window display, animal pelts on the benches…. Vegan friends, keep walking! Because this meat-lover’s restaurant, tucked away inside the Boucherie Les Provinces butcher’s shop – an institution in the Aligre neighborhood – isn’t playing the same ecologically-responsible, organic bobo serenade as its neighbors. The concept? Choose a piece of meat from the window display (and pay a cooking fee of €9.80) or opt for one of the propositions of the day. The day we went: a gigantic dry-aged prime rib for two (€88.80); a foie gras burger (€15.80); and, for us, a very tender beef fillet served with roasted potatoes and mixed greens (€25.80)… We ended the meal with an unhappy and overly heavy floating island (€5.80). Next door, there’s a wine shop with a new menu every week: chicken salad with leek oil (€8); suckling pork teriyaki (€12); slow-cooked chuck steak (€9)… And to drink, there are natural wines: a superb Côte-de-Brouilly from Pacalet (€6 a glass), a lovely Morgon from Coquelet (€78 a bottle), from a plethora of natural wines from Binner, Sébille, Nicq, Plageoles… À la carte €13.80 to €44.40. // G.LeP.
