Gluten-free breads? Nathaniel Doboin and Thomas Teffri-Chambelland have kept this deal going since 2014 in their lovely bakery with an atelier feel (a mouthwatering windowed bar, sacks of flour – rice and buckwheat, of course –, copper light fixtures, Formica tables…). Celiac-intolerants and enlightened lovers of alt-flours descend in their droves to dine on new savory options every day. Served à la carte the day we went for lunch: an impeccable leek and feta tart over a bed of green salad; then an unusual “browkie” – a chocolate cookie with the moist texture of a brownie. Some other options include: quinoa salad with grilled vegetables, sweet potato/feta/mustard sandwiches or, for all those with sweet and floury appetites, an unmissable chambelline – a small rectangular bread made in various versions (orange blossom, candied orange/chocolate chip, etc.). // T.V.X.
