Former banker Carla Rebeiz now delights lovers of Lebanon in her cool, chic shop with whitewashed walls, marble tables, well-stocked shelves and herringbone hardwood floors. It’s enough to make you forgive the somewhat impolite staff, before a series of Levantine gems make their way onto your table: truly authentic labneh; deliciously smoky baba ganoush; excellent monk’s salad with tomatoes, peppers, grilled eggplant, onions, lemon and olive oil; before a freshly cooked man’ousheh (flatbread) topped with incredible za’atar – with the option to add burrata, cherry tomatoes and arugula on top! For dessert, there’s a comforting orange blossom muhallebi or a chocolate-halva brownie. And don’t forget to get your fill of sumac, za’atar, syrups and jams that are made in Lebanon on your way out the door… // A.S.
FEELING THIRSTY? Homemade lemonade (€4), an authentic orange blossom white coffee (€3) and a few Lebanese wines served by the glass, including both a red (€6) and a white (€7) from the Monastère de Solan.
