Ground Control, Season 5! After entertaining the Cité de la Mode (2014), setting up camp on abandoned railroad tracks in the 18th arrondissement (2015), changing its name to Grand Train (2016), and moving to the 12th (2017), Ground Control has settled down for two years and tripled its outdoor space by opening up a giant 48,400-square-foot market! So what should you expect? A heavenly food court with a local market on the weekends, 12 restaurants and 7 cafes. The dream! On the agenda, most notably: incredible fresh pasta from Solina (by Riccardo and Fabio, ex-Achille), “momos” from Mr Zhao, African grub from Table Nali, Mexican snacks from Chilam, pizza by the slice from Faggio and the very first residence for the Refugee Food Festival, in addition to half a dozen outdoor stands – The Asado Club, Rozell & co, La Maison Besson… Tested and approved in picnic mode: delightful gnocchetti (small plump little pastas) with pumpkin, guanciale and Parmesan, made by Solina (€12); a gigantic and hearty marinated pork “cochinita pibil,” with black beans, guacamole and cilantro by Chilam (€12); delightful chicken with tamarind and fried plantains from Table Nali (€12). And to wash down all these little flavor bombs, opt for one of the three bars (there’s even a cocktail corner tucked away in an airplane cabin) and grab a glass of Pays d’Oc Roméo & Julieta (€5) or a Gallia beer (€5.50). And make sure to a stroll through the “Zone Franche,” either before or after pigging out, to peruse its ateliers, galleries, radio studio and flower shop… Dishes for €15 max. // J.G.
