Tadahiko Kinjo has been delighting western Paris with his incredible surprise tasting menu served to a dozen guests at lunch for the past 10 years now. The other day, we engulfed no fewer than 14 umami-esque appetizers presented on beautiful Japanese porcelain: an oyster with ponzu sauce, soybeans with vermicelli noodles and sesame seeds; shrimp and crab chawanmushi; bass with mirin and soy; cucumber, crab and tosazu; shiitake mushrooms in a dashi broth, amongst others… All that, before eight outstanding sushi combining bass, brill, scallops and mackerel…. And to finish, a mouthwatering green tea cream. All that for just €40! At night, the small bar and a few blonde wood tables allow you to enjoy an elegant tasting menu composed of sushi, sashimi, shabu-shabu or sukiyaki. // G.LeP.
FEELING THIRSTY? Kirin beer (€9 for 500 ml), around 20 sakes (eg.: Otokoyama from Asahikawa or Momo No Shizuku from Kyoto, €11 for 80 ml) and a dozen wines that don’t come cheap – a natural Pouilly-Fuissé from Philippe Valette at €52 a bottle, a Vosne-Romanée from Michel Gros at €150…
PRICE: Menu €40 (lunch) and €77 (dinner).
