The Saint-Martin neighborhood is the place to be! Owner of the classic Miguel Café on the Place du Port-Vieux, Nicolas Badard has doubled down with a nice café that boasts apple green walls, vintage furniture, wooden banquettes and big tables on the terrace. Chef Didier Franck (ex-Chez Albert) joins him at his new playground, pulling out all the stops without ever taking things too seriously. For us, the other day at lunch: delicate smoked trout from Baïgorry, placed atop a bed of chayote and mixed greens titillated by a sashimi sauce; a delicious, grilled, line-caught meagre steak from Saint-Jean-de-Luz, with vegetables from the market and goji berries; before a slightly overly-sweet dessert, a roasted apple with a financier and verbena syrup. // P.L.
