For a chance to dine near monsieur le Maire (like we did, the day we went), head to this Nice spot. Where, exactly? This prestigious little house run with a steady hand for 30 years by a friend of the rich and famous, Nicole Rubi. The day we went for lunch while seated on the shady terrace, we indulged in the generous “made in Riviera” cuisine, served at reasonable prices: a lovely salad “de Nice” with olives, anchovies and thinly sliced artichokes; a copious serving of fried red mullets – eaten with your hands if you’re feeling rebellious; before a chic but rather run-of-the-mill coffee ice cream. Other options noticed on the nearby tables: lobster linguine, line-caught grilled wolfish or warm shrimp dressed in olive oil. // A.A.
FEELING THIRSTY? Chic, conservative wines: a Var white from the Château Rasque (€10 a glass), a Hautes-Côtes-de-Nuits from the Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret (€58 a bottle), a Pommard premier cru from the Domaine de la Pousse d’Or (€150 a bottle), a Bâtard-Montrachet grand cru from Louis Latour (€790)…
PRICE: À la carte €50-100.
