Michel Briens grills fish like a pro at La Satrouille (which means “octopus” in the Cherbourg-en-Cotentin patois), a Brit chic pub with plenty of wood and leather features, plus views of the harbor. On the very affordable lunch menu (€18), expect some high waves! Things get started with force 6 winds thanks to some ultra-invigorating oysters from Saint-Vaast, followed by a regatta-style feast: sublime grilled whiting fillets with a whipped butter sauce and tender potato gratin; before a zesty homemade citrus sorbet for the beautiful dessert. At night, things get a little more sophisticated and Michel turns into a culinary tempest: cuttlefish sautéed with garlic and parsley, John Dory cooked on the plancha with a butter sauce, or a beautiful grilled sole. // F.P.
FEELING THIRSTY? A biodynamic Alsatian white from the Domaine Mittnacht (€6 a glass), Le P’tit Clou, a natural Loire red from Bruno Rochard (€26 a bottle) or an alternative local OPA from Les Travailleurs de l’Amer (€11 for 500 ml).
PRICE: Menus €18 (lunch), €21 (dinner except Saturday), €42 and €47, à la carte €43-64.
