Don’t confuse this place with the major French supermarket chain! Leclere, named after chef Guillaume Leclere (ex-Veyrat), is truly one of the best neo-bistros in Montpellier – and it’s not too shabby looking either! The day we went for lunch, in a dining room with rough stone walls and wood paneling, seated near a few winemakers who are regulars patrons (a good sign!), we dug into the carefully prepared lunch menu: Mediterranean meagre that was perfectly cooked and served with coco de Paimpol beans, slow-roasted tomatoes and a delightful arugula broth; ultra-tender leg of lamb from the Larzac plateau (which didn’t come with any jus, unfortunately), beet greens and crispy new potatoes; before a somewhat over-stimulating dessert combining a rosemary blancmange, whole seasonal fruit (blackberries, raspberries…) and a few dots of fennel jelly. // G.LeP.

FEELING THIRSTY? A wine menu that shines a light on good regional vintages: an Aude red from the Domaine Ledogar (€10 a glass), a Pic-Saint-Loup rosé from Le Clos Marie (€36 a bottle), a Corbières white from Maxime Magnon (€59)…

PRICE: Menus €25 (lunch) and €45 (dinner).
