Les 3 Journées

On a cute square in the old part of Perpignan, with a Wallace fountain and a vintage garter shop, the French-Korean chef Véronique Souloy serves delightful lunches at sweet prices. Included in the €18 set menu, devoured on the terrace the day we went: beautiful slices of heirloom tomatoes, purple figs and slices of gouda with pesto; beautiful fried whiting fillets caught fresh that morning, served with beet greens, a huge baked potato and chorizo chips; before a heartening Mirabelle plum clafoutis. To drink, there’s nothing but natural wines from nearby: P’tit Piaf, a Côtes-Catalanes rosé from Jacques de Chancel (€4.50 a glass), Barrick White, a white Roussillon from Stéphane Morin (€20 a bottle) and craft Alzina beer (€4.50 for 330 ml). There’s a dining room upstairs as well. Set menus €12-18 (lunch). // D.N.
