Thanks to its terrace ideal for eyeballing joggers running along the Canal de l’Ourcq and its vintage décor (brick walls, iron columns), Les Bancs Publics brings a little boboism to the 19th arrondissement. On the blackboard menu the night we went: incredible Corsican figatellu ravioli with cream of Parmesan (€7) – or octopus flash seared on the plancha with cream of garlic (€7); incredibly tender veal sweetbreads with whole carrots in browned butter and a fresh broad bean purée (€15) – or hake with lightly grilled skin, spinach and a sesame cream (€15); before some very simple strawberries with mascarpone and crisp basil meringue (€6.50). To drink, there’s a pint of Chouffe (€5), caipirinha (€5.50) and well chosen wines, like an organic white Saumur, Demoiselle Bleue (€3.80 a glass) or a Fitou from the Château de Nouvelles (€30 a bottle).
