Les Pères Populaires
Le Fooding Guide’s 2014 woman of the hour award
A nice spot for a bottle of wine from noon until two in the morning, Les Pères Pop has been bringing the lower 20th to life for almost ten years now…. Their secret? Laid back décor (vintage furniture, Formica, school chairs and time-worn couches); a café crème in the morning (€2.70), sipped while working on your laptop; apéros at reasonable prices (saucisson platter for €5; mixed platter for €10.50, pints of Pelforth for €5.50; and Viognier blanc for €3 a glass); and a lovely lunch menu during the week. For us: fresh and creamy tomato and beetroot gazpacho spiced with chili, crisp zucchini and peppers, and salty pork crisps; steamed hake, bulgur wheat with herbs, lemon confit, raw green cabbage and exquisite eggplant purée; before a blueberry and lime zest cheesecake on a speculos crust. Menus €13-16 (weekday lunch), platters €5 to €10.50, sandwiches €4.20, shared plates €4-9. // M.A.-L.
