Michel Kalifa’s butcher shop/delicatessen feels like a gourmet treasure trove! As his wife Françoise Montluc busies away happily behind this bar favored by carnivores in the know, you’ll find them digging into the various Sephardi and Ashkenazi preparations: wagyu beef prepared as pastrami, picklefleisch, rolled veal with olives, dried beef caviar served at the bar with a bagel (€1.90). Another dreamier option is the Sunday brunch, which features the likes of: a plate of chopped liver and caramelized onions, followed by a respectable 300-gram Simmental rib-eye steak, before a beautiful slice of apple and raison strüdel (not included in the set menu price) – all made by Françoise. The freshly-prepared sandwich option is much more affordable (eg.: “Henry Jacob” veal pastrami or salmon gravlax with peppercorn) offered at lunch with a glass of wine. // A.Be.

FEELING THIRSTY? A Tuscan red Tenuta San Guido (€8 a glass), a Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine-sur-Lie from Philippe Bouchard (€14.90 a bottle) or a Côtes-du-Rhône La Bastide Saint Dominique (€19.90).

PRICE: Sandwiches €9.50 to €12, set menu €25 with a glass of wine, brunch €55-64 (Sunday).
