Antique mirrors, blonde wood, slender plates, menus with moveable letters… As the worthy little sister of the very American Marcel restaurants, Marcelle has quickly established itself as the nice girl of the group. Running this immaculate café with a detox-attitude is thirtysomething chef Ophélie Barès, winner of Qui sera le prochain grand pâtissier? on France 2 (the French equivalent of Top Chef: Just Desserts) and a former student of Christophe Michalak. She serves a very cool €19 lunch menu: a light salad of the day of roasted carrots, lamb’s lettuce, radish, chickpeas, avocado and za’atar; salmon wrapped up in a bun with egg and avocado; a cinnamon twist; and a sinful caramel-pecan éclair… Wash it all down with a juice, like the Rachel (orange-carrot-ginger, €6.50) or even a fresh coconut water (€7) or hipster coffee with homemade almond milk (from €2.50 to €4.50). Breakfast €4-10 and set menus €14-19 (weekday lunch), pastries €6 to €6.50. À la carte €13-25. // A.A.
