It’s loud, everyone’s talking over one another and there aren’t even any plates. It’s more expensive than the restaurants around it, we wait in line for at least ten minutes, but we’d come back next week…. Why? Because it’s so damn good! Eyal Shani, the Israeli celebrity chef with blue glasses and bushy hair, sends out all kinds of warm pita bread sandwiches. For a snack: pita served with your choice of either “meat combo,” golden breaded fish, senya (seasoned ground meat) or kebab. For a meal: steak & egg toppings, stuffed cabbage, bœuf bourguignon, or lamb with herbs and juicy tomatoes. And on the side: perfectly charred broccoli or braised cauliflower (€5.50). What about dessert? More pita, of course! Filled with chocolate and bananas or Tatin-style apples. Appetizers (€4-5.50), mains (€9.50-12). Outstanding! // E.P.-V.
