Otium

Restaurant Otium in ParisOtium (Paris) - © Otium

Despite a name that seems to indicate a certain form of relaxation (otium meant “leisure time” for the Romans), this beautiful coffee shop from Kaitlyn Reinhart and Charles Cariou, plays it rather square with two straight lines of tables making a right angle to the bar and the big brick wall. What should you expect? Good sandwiches, like the tofu burger piled high with grilled peppers and salad (€7.50), plus bowls. To be more precise, the day we went for lunch, we had a sort of Bollywood bowl with a trampoline of spelt and arugula, topped with roasted zucchini slices, pickled radish, tasty feta (€1.50), minced raw cauliflower “rice,” tomatoes, a soft-boiled egg (€1.50), parsley, sumac, mint and a muhammara dip… Perfect with a chia pudding (€5.50) or a cold-pressed juice – like the Witch Doctor that combines fennel, kiwi, apple, spinach, cucumber and cardamom (€5.50 for 250 ml). Bowls €13, sandwiches €8, set menus €12-17. // V.V.
