After opening three locations near the Canal Saint-Martin, Bastille and Etienne Marcel, Street Bangkok has taken over a corner of the chic Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood… In an atmosphere that’s just as electric as ever (sheet metal tables, rough cinderblocks, scaffolding), a team of young chefs is busy at work reproducing Jeff Claudio’s (ex-Yardbird in Hong Kong) star recipes with very convincing results: an explosive salad of curried rice balls with sausage from Chiang Mai (galangal, cilantro, lemongrass) and fresh herbs; tender strips of rump steak mi-cuit over crispy rice, shallots, mint, lemongrass and chives… Or better yet, served exclusively at the Saint-Germain spot, an unstoppable crying tiger made with black Angus steak grilled over charcoal and vine shoots; finger-licking good ribs in BBQ sauce; a golden halal half-chicken marinated in spices and coconut milk; whole grilled sea bream which you wrap in lettuce leaves with vermicelli noodles, Thai basil, mint, cilantro and a shellfish sauce. And how can we forget the classic mango coconut sticky rice or the Glazed ice creams with brazen flavors (coconut-pandan leaf…) for dessert. // J.G.
