Best Greek sandwich of 2018

After founding La Maison Kalios, brothers Pierre-Julien and Grégory Chantzios teamed up with restaurateur Juan Arbelaez (Plantxa, A Mère, Levain…) to bring Yaya (“grandmother” in Greek) to life. So, what should you expect from this luminous restaurant/loft space designed by Saquez & Partners? Mezze (tzatziki, taramasalata, etc. €5-7) spread on homemade bread with some incredible olive oil; small and colorful plates (marinated octopus with mountain sage and green Halkidiki olives, €10); comfort food, like lamb shoulder, slow roasted for twelve hours at a low temperature, served with a cherry tomato briam (€17); an authentic Greek salad with Lemnos feta, Kalamata olives, tomatoes, cucumber, oregano and red onion; and for a beautiful conclusion to the meal, a mystifying dark chocolate and olive oil lava cake with smoked fleur de sel. As for the wines, there’s no useless yada-yada at Yaya: an exceptional red Dalamara Naoussa 2014 (€50 a bottle) or a natural white Coteaux-d’Ainos from the Domaine Sclavos (€6 a glass). And don’t miss their perfect homemade lemonade (€5) or the bonus gifts: the épicerie section where you can pick up Kalios products, and the two north and northeast-facing terraces. À la carte €27-36.
