“Say cheese!” Driss Azzoug and Arthur Barret (both of whom used to work in the fashion world) have plastered their cheesy motto on the walls of Meulerie, setting the tone for the sunniest cheese shop in all Marseille. With a lemon yellow façade and Klein blue interiors, expect the best stinky cheeses from the area and from a little further away. The day we went, dressed in a Spice Girls tee-shirt, the stylish Driss slid all of the following into our tote bag: an ultra-fresh truffled goat cheese; a first-rate Gruyère; and a Corsican sheep’s milk cheese that tasted like vacation, pimped out with herbes de Provence. Otherwise, near the imposing white tiled bar, the wooden shelf has everything you could need to pair with their cheeses: delicious Piémont du Garlaban olive oil; mouthwatering homemade jams; Les Niçois’ collector bottles of “Rosé Garcia” rosé…! // Juliette Mallat
The hidden gem: The goat cheese with Banon honey (€6 a piece).
