Want in on Antwerp’s best-kept secret speakeasy? First you’ve got to unearth this enigmatic bar, which you’ll find somewhere at the intersection between the Hôtel de Ville, St. Paul’s church and St. Charles Borromeo church. Stop at the very opaque entrance – literally, a seemingly empty, shadowy storefront. A glance to the left, another to the right, and we’re pressing the doorbell. After a while, a voice through an old parlophone finally invites us to enter the backroom, where we discover a cozy atmosphere and exposed concrete walls, met lots of prohibition references and old-fashioned trinkets. Behind the stone-topped counter, the menu is revealed with a little more clarity: Mango Tango (mezcal, mango bitters, €16.50), Honey Negroni (organic honey vodka, bitters, gin, €15) or Milky Way (rum and lychee milk punch, tea foam, €15). Sip one while nibbling on complementary salted popcorn, a cast of cheeses from Kazerie, charcuterie from Buyse and fancy macaroons like foie gras and caramelized apple or white truffle from Piedmont (€9.50 to €10.50). The secret’s safe with us. // Louis Sipido
