Lekker Huis

Between its green, red and yellow walls, Lekker uis (“gourmet house” for those whose Dutch is a bit rusty) bears a photo of Prince Laurent of Belgium who, it is said, often asks his Chinese-speaking adviser to place an order for him here. On the menu (thanks Google translate!), you’ll find a selection of typical dishes from Northern China and Shanghai: “lion’s head,” a kind of big meatball with a foamy texture; whole roast leg of lamb, sliced and perfectly seasoned; and lightly fried tofu pâté with a hint of cinnamon, ginger and sesame. Special mention for the beautifully pink four-grain rice mix served on the side. Everything’s good, so go ahead and order blindly! // Rocky Simone
