THE STORY: And they’re back! After Le Cloître – the little gem of a hotel decorated by India Mahdavi – say hello to L’Arlatan, the second hotel in Arles from the LMA group, a part of the Luma de Maja Hoffmann foundation… This particular construction site was certainly up to the task (the hotel, part of which is classified as a historic monument, is located on an ancient Roman site near the Place du Forum), and entrusted blindly to the Cuban-American artist Jorge Pardo, who was assisted by a team of architects, designers, woodworkers and painters based in the Yucatan. The result after three years of relentless renovations? Stunning! The colorful décor combines South American and local Camargue influences: graphic fabric, openwork metal, carefully restored original ceilings, pretty mosaic tile floors, furniture crafted from Costa Rican wood, light fixtures inspired by Mexican piñatas… As for the former courtyard, around which this 15th-century hôtel particulier was built, it’s now a tropical garden with banana, fig and cypress tress, plus a paradisiacal pool in the middle! Double rooms starting at €99 a night.

TOILETRIES: Végétalement Provence soap, body wash and lotion.
INTERNET: Wifi (free).
BREAKFAST: €20, with coffee or tea, homemade breads, viennoiseries, cakes, muffins, tarts and brioche, Italian charcuterie, eggs, raw milk cheeses, farm-fresh yogurts, fresh fruit…
LITTLE LUXURY: A flamboyant cocktail bar, serving homemade infusions, open every day from 11am to midnight – and another bar in the basement where you can taste even rarer spirits.
