THE STORY: Nestled away in the Grand Tourmalet ski resort located in the heart of the Hautes-Pyrénées region, La Voie Lactée is sure to leave you starry-eyed! Owners Nathalie and Philippe Dours had the brilliant idea of bringing on architect Romain Thevenot in 2022 to revitalize La Crête Blanche, an emblematic establishment in the village of La Mongie. That turned out to be a very smart call: transformed with an eco-friendly approach, using local materials and repurposed furniture, the hotel now boasts retro-Alpine style with inspired nods to the 60s and 70s. The 20 bedrooms have evocative names like Étoile du Berger, Galaxie, Constellation and Grande Ourse, and have kept that same old-fashioned charm and elegance, with wood-paneled walls, headboards reminiscent of mountain peaks, soft wool throws… and for some of them, bow windows with uninterrupted views of the snow-capped mountains. And to kickstart or wind down your day on the right foot, head to the Milky Way, which throughout the day morphs from a breakfast nook to a restaurant serving carefully-sourced specialties, to a cozy tearoom and finally a lively cocktail bar. The planets are most definitely aligned here! Double rooms starting at €180 a night.
TOILETRIES: Organic and natural care products.
BREAKFAST: Buffet (€21 per person) featuring hot drinks, fruit juices, all kinds of bread, viennoiseries, butter, jams, honey, pastries, cheeses, eggs and charcuterie from the region… not to mention the homemade crepes!
LITTLE LUXURY: The wide array of massages that await you in the hotel’s relaxation space. After a little brisk morning on the slopes comes the comfort of the spa!
