On the sublime Place de la Cathédrale in Bazas, the chilly Olivier Frémont named his ice cream shop Baltoro, a name borrowed from the Baltoro ice cream shop in Pakistan. Every day, enlightened lovers of frozen treats can taste six different Italian gelato flavors served at the ideal temperature and prepared with the perfect texture, in a cup or a cone: 76% Mexican dark chocolate, Madagascar vanilla and Tonka bean… made with organic farm-fresh milk from the Château Le Pis in Taillecavat; plus apricot and berry sorbets made with fruits from Le Verger de Frézat, or organic Andalusian lemon sorbet. There’s a large selection of to-go flavors as well (€3.50 for 200 ml). // Raoul Taburin
The hidden gem: The “plombières” ice creams – Madagascar vanilla, Corsican candied fruits flavored with kirsch (€3.50 for a small to-go pint).
