We almost would have been disappointed if it had been otherwise….It was under the influence of an ayahuasca concoction, deep in the Ecuadorian jungle, that Gabriel Rivera had a vision for a shaker spot that would wake up Bordeaux. The result? A tiled, paneled, marbled cocktail bar with plenty of hanging vines and soft industrial/tropical vibes, where Grégory Bruneau (Mama Shelter) mixologizes a dozen spicy cocktails. Tested out the night we went: a Lick it Baby (€12) – blueberry-lemonade syrup, Punt e Mess vermouth, an acidic solution, amaretto, pisco and aquafaba (the cooking water from the chickpeas used for the house’s homemade hummus with trout roe); and an ethanol-free option called Belle Endormie, with aquafaba and blueberry-lemonade syrup once again, along with lemon and Three Cents cherry soda (€8). And if you’re hungry, there are worldly snacks: Thai-style beef tataki, mango carpaccio, eggplant caviar and even Baeri caviar… In short, a spot that’ll have you tripping! // Albert Gredinbar
