THE STORY: This is an “American house,” as they say around here to describe houses built by Cap Corse residents who made their fortunes on the other side of the Atlantic. The one owned by Paul Saladini was constructed by his great-great-great uncle, in 1873, up in the hills of Rogliano. Built in the Italian Renaissance style, the impressive 1,300 m2 building was given a makeover in 2016. Nowadays it’s a marvelous bed & breakfast, equipped with a living room filled with old-fashioned American charm, a smoking bar, three bedrooms and two suites decorated with 19th-century bourgeois style: floral wallpaper, antique woodwork, tomette tile floors, high ceilings…. And don’t forget about the beautiful outdoor pool that resembles a lavoir. Double rooms starting at €140 a night.
TOILETRIES: Damana shampoo, shower gel, soap and body lotion.
INTERNET: Wifi (free)
BREAKFAST: €12, with coffee or tea, freshly baked bread, viennoiseries, homemade jams, Corsican fruit juices, freshly squeezed orange juice, muesli, fromage blanc, yogurt cake, jam tart, cheese, ham.
LITTLE LUXURY: Taking a bath in the Pierre Marie suite, with a view of the sea, and the Île de Capraia in the distance.
