Here’s the perfect excuse to slip off the highway and detour into old Berchem. In a rather swanky building with a secluded, bike-friendly terrace, you’ll find this neo-bistro with plenty Flemish flair – minus the starched tablecloths and stuffy waiters. Instead, it’s all about raw wood, cream-colored walls glowing under amber light, and a bar built for lingering conversations. And there’s plenty to talk about. The night we went, hushed praise swirled around the room for the perfectly grilled asparagus paired with rosy lamb loin, salsa verde, buttery sautéed radishes and voilà! A charming combination of Belgian flavors, washed down with a crisp, dry cider from Cidernations, all in harmony with a menu that evolves without ever feeling repetitive, offering comforting classics with a refreshing twist. · Gordon Bleu
