A taco in the hand is worth two in the bush! And nowhere is that truer than at Rico’s – or rather Taqueria Rico, right in the heart of Antwerp (not Mexico City, though it sure feels like it). Inside this space inspired by architect Luis Barragán à la Studio Strange (corrugated aluminum counter, neon lights, bar stools), chef Catalina Ottone and her team are firing out homemade tortillas made fresh to order, filled with a delicious mix of locally sourced produce and goodies imported from the motherland (chilis, mushrooms, tomatillos). The night we went, it was all about the tacos, obvs: the pork Al Pastor inspired by a Lebanese shawarma; the Veggie Gringa packed with mushrooms and melted cheese; and the Suadero, loaded with shredded beef, cilantro and onions. On the side? Esquites – a warm corn salad seasoned with lime, cheese and chili, or papas aplastadas – (super) crispy potatoes covered in Rico’s creme fraiche (secret) sauce. Still got room? End this Mexican feast with a Tres Leches, a cake made from three types of milk – whole, condensed and evaporated. Buen provecho! · Adèle Mouette
