The name of this shop does exactly what it says on the tin… In a corner of Vrijdagmarkt, one of the coolest squares in Antwerp, Jan Chalmet puts his relaxed spin on bottles and books. A born storyteller, this dedicated sourcer of delicious goods has an endless supply of stellar combinations up his sleeve! And there’s plenty to admire on the shelves of his shop: to go with the 1794 Belgian pastis, a liquid ode to the Gare Centrale train station, opt for Treinreizen in Europa, Lonely Planet’s guide to train travel in Europe; with the Squadron 303 vodka, named after the famous Polish squadron from the Second World War, pick up a copy of the Kunst voor das Reich investigation (The Nazi War Chest in English) by journalist Geert Sels; and to pair with Goldfish, a 2016 Languedoc Riesling produced by Jeff Carrel, Het geheime leven van vissen (What a Fish Knows: The Inner Lives of Our Underwater Cousins)…. In short, Jan still has plenty of stories left to tell! // Kiko Zushi
The bullet-proof bottle: Two Bacardí Breezers, the hottest booze from the 1990s, even better when taken to go with an old Joepie magazine (€14).
