Generations of the Cuvry family have lived in the village of Beersel since 1873. These days, you’ll find parents Jean-Pierre and Joceline there, along with their son David (on the farm) and their daughter Evelyne (manning the shop). Nestled among the stables and tractors is their store, decorated with wooden details and tile flooring, offering a selection of fruits and vegetables, juices, fresh bread, raw milk cheeses from friends over on Baillerie farm… and top-quality cuts of meat: squab pigeon from Pigeonneau des Collines, chicken from Gibecq and, most importantly, pork raised on site, prepared unadorned as beautiful cuts of meat, offal and porky goodies of all kinds – sausage, black pudding, meatloaf, ham, spiringue pork shoulder or cervelas sausages… Expect a jostle at the gate, but thanks to the friendly advice and quality of the products, we’re happy to patiently wait our turn! // Léa Cruz
THE HIDDEN GEM: The nitrite-free ham is a must-try, smoked and cured nice and slowly (€24.35 per kg).
