In the center of Les Lilas, twin brothers Slim and Karim Loumi have been setting the tone for over 10 years now: the meat of the future will be halal and organic! Barely in their thirties, these pioneers can pride themselves on running the first butcher’s shop of its kind in France, and for having dusted off certified halal meats’ reputation in the process. Expect merguez sausages that aren’t at all greasy, delicate chipolata-Comté sausages, blood-red Galician beef, salt marsh lamb from Mont-Saint-Michel… The classics of halal meat in the window display get along brilliantly with a selection of rarer halal cuts, like veal bacon or duck. In the massive oven, juicy lamb shoulder is slow roasting at a low temperature, while on the other side of the shop, a small selection of exceptional products (honey, oils) vie for our attention. And we would be remiss not to mention the stellar staff, who are just as impressive as the rest! // Sofia Sétif
Hidden gem: Galician prime rib (€90/kg) to impress everyone at your next barbecue, and wild goose foie gras, guaranteed not to be force-fed (€130 for 125 g).
