Still calling it a “coffee shop”? Please – this is a bean boudoir, darlings. Slap-bang in the middle of the Marais sits a caffè with a consciously curated look by Onja and Clément Merlo: a warm, wood-paneled bar, gleaming silverware, bistro tables and stools, and the undisputed star of the show… a sparkling Marzocco espresso machine. The space is artfully adorned with beautiful blooms arranged by Onja herself, a floral designer from Vague studio, who extends her botanical poetry into the menu. Think brown sugar lattes (also riffed with pumpkin spice, sesame or chai) and exquisite teas – including matcha with or without milk, or dialed up in a mango, vanilla or black sesame version. More of a classicist? There’s espresso, cortado, mocaccino and filter coffee made with Costa Rican beans roasted by Fève, best enjoyed alongside chewy macadamia and white chocolate cookies, an irresistible carrot cake with swoon-worthy icing or a textbook banana bread – all courtesy of Merci Mandy. · Andrée Claude
THE HIDDEN GEM: The chestnut latte (€6), a strictly seasonal affair.
