Naming your deli after yourself? Only the great Peppe Giacomazza could pull it off. The Sicilian-born, TV chef from Limburg – who’s the mastermind behind the Michelin-starred La Botte – still rolls up his sleeves every Sunday, cooking alongside his wife Inez, behind the counter of their little operation. Set inside a modern, industrial-style lab, he whips up from scratch fresh delights daily, to take away or devour on the spot. We’re talking lasagna and osso buco alla milanese, of course, as well as arancini al ragù, pasta alle vongole, or risotto with salsiccia and asparagus… Not to mention the cheese and charcuterie, straight outta Sicily. The performance continues in the aisles, where miles of shelves overflow with imported gems and – more importantly – homemade products bearing Peppe’s pretty little mug. A special shout out for the chili tapenade, yellow datterino tomato sauce, caponata, normasa and ragù siciliano. And when you’re at the checkout, don’t forget to grab the cookie of the week, which for us was a house-made amaretti morbidi, made with amaretto and almond, to finish on a high note. // Lina Megalinia
THE HIDDEN GEM: The canary-yellow mimosa cake, with a light genoise sponge, luscious whipped cream and crème pâtissière (€8 a slice).
