THE STORY: Hôtel Voltaire, located on a pretty square in Arles, has gotten a successful facelift. With its sixties façade, a rarity in a city marked by the Greco-Roman era, you would almost think you were in Miami – palm trees and flamingos are all that’s missing, unless you count the ones in the nearby Camargue region… The nine bedrooms (including three four-person dormitories), reimagined by interior designer Eloïse Bosredon, keep things simple and cool: recycled materials, a mixture of bright and pastel colors (rust, flashy yellow, soft blue, aniseed green…), cozy beds, ceiling fans and private balconies. The Levantine cuisine from Tamir Nahmias and Or Michaeli is the cherry on top, stewed up in the ground floor restaurant, making this a truly outstanding find! Beds starting at €31 a night, double rooms starting at €80 a night.
TOILETRIES: Organic 3-in-1 soap, body wash and shampoo.
INTERNET: Wifi (free).
BREAKFAST: €9.50 with coffee or tea, bread, viennoiseries, date cake, charcuterie and cheese.
LITTLE LUXURY: Having a pre-dinner drink on the balcony while enjoying all the activity on Place Voltaire below.
