The story: In a slightly sleepy patch of Bruges suburbia, this former broom and brush factory is anything but dusty. No sweeping things under the rug here: every spectacular suite at Jonojé has been obsessively designed from floor to ceiling by Karel Loontiens and Jo Hoeven of Studio Loho (alongside Esther Noben, Jo’s wife), and the result is a masterclass in meticulous craftsmanship. Spread across several century-old red-brick buildings are six 75 m2 spaces (named Ichi, Ni, San, Yon, Go and Roku – Japanese from one through to six), each with its own personality, yet all sharing the same raw-material elegance (pigmented lime plaster walls, stone bed frame, terracotta sinks, restrained chrome touches) and sharply curated pieces of furniture. Think round concrete tables to capsule showers and Tetromino modular sofas, all designed by Studio Loho. In short, a fully immersive aesthetic experience, bordering on the museum-worthy, and almost enough to make you forget Bruges’ old town is just ten minutes away by Petit Porteur bike (available to rent on site). Suites from €219 per night. · Eddie Muffin

Toiletries: Aesop shampoo, body wash and body lotion.

Breakfast: €50 for one or two people, pricey but worth it: sourdough bread, whipped butter, jams, indulgent chocolate spread, chia pudding, freshly squeezed juices… plus herb omelet made to order – all homemade by the cook Elena.

Little luxury: Go all out with a meal at gastro-chic neighbor Cantine Copine – or simply raid the beautifully stocked mini bar from the comfort of the incredible bathtub.
