After working her magic on the wines at Olly Ceulenaere’s restaurant Publiek, wine fairy Kelly Dehollande has waved her wand around this cozy ground-floor spot, transforming it into a real win(n)er of a wine bar – with the blessing of Saint Stefanus, who resides in the church opposite. She delights naturophiles with bewitching bottles three nights a week, as they squat the bar of her polished concrete joint, or the cute terrace next to a little patch of greenery, under the sparkling street lamps. What about the wines? They’re from Belgium and beyond, like Devour Me (€10 a glass), an ultra-local white from Emelie Maeyens’ Drap winery in Oostkamp, outside of Bruges; Frank (€55 a bottle), a cabernet franc from Nomad Wines in South Africa; or a Loire skin-contact romorantin from the Domaine Tessier (€48) – all of which can be popped open on site or taken to go, for half the price. THE BULLET-PROOF BOTTLE: A saline (and much sought-after) El Bandito Mangaliza from Testalonga in South Africa’s Swartland region (€48 a bottle).
