Ever since 2016, the people of Antwerp have been savoring the delicious brunch-inspired dishes by Dave Haesen at Butcher’s Coffee, paired with batch brews from Andy Roasters, which he also owns. It’s in this former butcher’s shop (red and white tiling, a Marzocco espresso machine sitting proudly atop the former butcher’s block) that Flor and Oscar send out fat plates from the tiny kitchen. The day we went, we opted for their famous Breakfast Burger made on a homemade brioche bun with bacon, egg, avocado, melted cheddar and a tomato-onion chutney; and a Chicken BLT with juicy chicken and cabbage salad on toasted vegan bread from Nona’s Bakery. Eyeballed hungrily on the next table over: enormous pancakes with maple syrup, banana and bacon, known by (nearly) all Antwerpians. And for early risers, viennoiseries from Leo bakery are always available. // Si Moné
FEELING THIRSTY? Coffee from Andy’s micro coffee roaster, including a Butcherke which boasts the perfect ratio of steamed milk to double espresso (€4.20), along with aperitifs like a Mimosa (€8) or a fruity Mobylette orange wine from the Muller-Koeberle winery (€7.50 a glass).
PRICE: Plates €12-16, viennoiseries €3.50 to €4.50.
