Funk is a classic example of one of those feel-good neo-bakeries that are popping up all over the place: bread, cakes – and a little something extra. After Have A Roll, Dennis Van Peel and Lisa Wynen adopted the concept, taking inspiration from Lille Bakery in Copenhagen, and began baking sourdough bread and vegan viennoiseries and pastries – from croissants, cinnamon rolls, cookies, blueberry crumble, apple and marzipan biscuits, and some marvelous little puff pastries with brown sugar crème anglaise, caramelized pears and pecans, or with cherries. From morning to late afternoon, you can also grab a seat at one of the tables and munch on a bowl of yogurt with fruit compote, maple syrup, pecans, pomegranate and almond granola, with an oat milk coffee roasted by DOK; or a crispy toast tartine with smoked salmon and red onion or pastrami, Comté, pickled vegetables and horseradish, plus a glass of natural wine, like a Languedoc red Pépin (€7 a glass) or a natural Müller-Thurgau from the Sandersstruck winery in the Moselle department (€40 a bottle). · Kiko Zushi
