Bagels and good music: that’s the motto of former professional dancer Salamat Tuharea, who has swapped the stage for a bagel shop on Kloosterstraat. The setup is refreshingly simple: a record player, a stack of vinyls and a white-tiled counter where those famous hole-in-the-middle breads (plain, sesame, poppy seed, multigrain) are generously filled with just four carefully chosen combinations: cream cheese and tomato; hummus with tomato and onion; salmon, cream cheese, dill, tomato and capers; or omelet, bacon and melted cheddar. Settle into one of the banquettes inside or, better still, take your bagel for a stroll in Zuidpark. · Polly Fretter
The hidden gem: The Bacon Egg & Cheese bagel, piling a freshly made omelet, crispy bacon and oozy cheddar, also available in a halal version (€9.50).
