After opening Cocotte in 2019, bistro lovers Ludovic Dardenay and Julien Fouin (the boss of the Vertigo group), chef Massimiliano Monaco and sommelier Paul Lacroix doubled down on Lyon, opening a new spot right next door to their original restaurant. The promise made by Cocozza? Extra-thin and crispy pizzas like you’d get in Rome, prepared using lightly matured dough made from organic stoneground wheat flour, and topped with carefully sourced ingredients. The night we went, seated at one of the yellow Formica tables next to the massive Berkel slicer, we devoured all of the following: a Frank pizza that combined fior di latte, speck, mushrooms and persillade; along with an incredible Sauvageonne pizza covered in San Marzano tomato sauce, fior di latte, artisan sausage, scamorza and cime di rapa. As an appetizer, the most ravenous among you might order a ball of bufala mozzarella or a charcuterie plate (country ham, speck, prosciutto…), before ending the meal with an authentic tiramisu! // M.R.

FEELING THIRSTY? Transalpine bottles: Raisin Libre, a Beaujolais from Paul-Henri Thillardon (€7 a glass), a Chianti from Majnoni Guicciardini (€27 a bottle), an orange wine from Valentina Passalacqua (€36)… Along with a few locally brewed beers, including a Garipotte lager from the Brasserie de la Loire (€7 for 330 ml).
