NUMBER OF ROOMS: 12 rooms, 60 beds, 1 apartment
CLOSED ANNUALLY: Open all year round

THE STORY: The youth hostel HO36 just opened its doors in the Guillotière neighborhood, often described as the “Brooklyn of Lyon.” Recently remodeled by a dedicated restaurateur and a former banker, they kept some of the furniture from its past life as a hotel and gathered up vintage pieces and industrial accessories for an ultra-contemporary look. In addition to a café and a restaurant with a mostly locavore menu (open 7 days a week), the establishment also has a dozen double rooms, an apartment with two bedrooms on the top floor and 60 beds spread out over dormitories for 2, 4, 6 or 8 people. All for teeny tiny prices: starting at €22 a night for shared rooms, and from €69 a night for the double rooms.

TOILETRIES: Dr Bronner soap, shampoo and shower gel, Egyptian Magic body cream, Lamazuna makeup removing wipes in the rooms, and a Stop the Water While Using Me soap distributor made with organic ingredients in the dormitories.
INTERNET: Free (wifi).
BREAKFAST: A formula menu for €6 with a hot drink, a viennoiserie or tartines, and a glass of fruit juice. €3 extra for a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. €22 brunch on Sundays. MINI-BAR: No, but the hotel offers mint tea to its residents everyday at 5pm, and has a kitchen equipped with multiple fridges and microwaves in the vaulted cellars.
LITTLE LUXURY: The winter garden where you can chill out while drinking your Owl Brothers Coffee Roasters coffee, roasted in Lyon, or a glass of Maison Dolin vermouth.
