“Nothing is lost, everything is transformed” takes on its full meaning with Laurène Marinier, a product designer who first launched Môt Chùt as a bric-a-brac store of upcycled objects, before hybridizing it into a caffeine-fueled vintage café. The name says it all: một chút means “just a little” in Vietnamese – proof that a little can go a long way. The vibe is unapologetically seventies, all burnt orange and chocolate browns, furnished with pieces Laurène has sourced or reworked herself, from corduroy folding chairs to a tiled banquette. Browse the shelves of thrifted treasures while sipping a beautifully brewed coffee made with beans from Lyon-based roasters Mokxa or Paris’s Hanoi Corner. The latter shines in its preferred method: the Vietnamese phin, traditionally prepared, slowly dripping over a base of sweetened condensed milk. Also on the menu: retro Chérico chicory coffee, Awachaï teas and hot chocolates – and, since thrifting builds an appetite, well-executed bites like lemon and black sesame marble cake or a chicken bánh mì (also available vegetarian), in mini or maxi format, lovingly prepared by the friends at Fortune. A keeper – and then some! · Ama Pola
