There’s no room for lukewarm fare at Magma, where Andrea Rossignol and Bérénice Talarmin (he’s a graphic designer and art director, she used to work in real estate) are warming up gloomy mornings in their Danish-inspired coffee shop (what else?) that’s inviting and stylish at the same time: retro mosaic tile floors, sage green walls, round dark wood tables… On the blackboard menu, you’ll see specialty coffee prepared every way from the classic americano to cold brew, not to mention the V60 coffee, all sourced from their coffee roaster friends, like Andy in Antwerp and Deep in Marseille. Want something to go with your cup of joe? Grab a scone from Mado, pimped out with labneh and a peach and lavender coulis; two soft-boiled eggs from the Monts du Lyonnais farm, served with some stellar sides – Comté aged for 18 months, malossol gherkins, gremolata; and at lunch time, Mediterranean-style sandwiches, like the “misobergine” – delicious pita bread generously stuffed with miso-roasted eggplant, avocado, hard-boiled eggs, fresh blue goat cheese, fried red onions and fresh herbs… // Mado Réassouet
